HOW TO START A BLOG!

You ask me many times how to start a blog and that is why today I am writing you tips that I hope will help you. The hostess has been around for over 4 years and here I will write to you about the things I learned through that time.

Today it is fashionable to be a blogger and something that used to be a hobby for many of us has now imposed itself as a kind of business. Although I still do not understand this as my job since I am permanently employed in a local company, I still see the blog as a place to share experiences with all of you. That is why this article is here today, to share the experience of how a blog is created, and I will mostly write following the example of a food blog.

I remember myself when I started writing a blog, I didn’t even know what a blog really was, but I knew I needed a place to write down some things, not even thinking about readability, numbers, or some future. Today I have the same set in my head, I rarely peek into google analytics and do not calculate what will happen in half a year, I live for today and do not think about what will happen tomorrow, I recommend the same, enjoy what you create without expecting anything so you may be surprised what all will come.

So, Wisdom Depot will elaborate the technical part of the blog that is primary before you start your own blog.

Technical part

  1. Blog topics – write about what interests you and start a blog because you have an idea, don’t start a blog just to have a blog. The topic can be one or more of them, whichever suits you.
  2. Name – What you need next is a name, and the advice I always give is to choose a short and memorable name in the language in which you write. Start with yourself, you will probably find it easier to remember ‘Housewife’ than ‘Sanja’s kitchen adventures in New York City’.
  3. Domain – if you want to be a serious blogger I definitely recommend you to buy your own domain. Of course, there are also free online platforms such as bloggers or blog.hr, but your own domain provides you with much more than the free one.
  4. Hosting (is a leased space on the Internet where you can store your content) – It is also paid once a year.
  5. Install WordPress – after you have purchased everything, install wordpress from cpanel. If you don’t know yourself, you can ask the company where you bought the domain for help.
  6. Blog layout – there are a lot of free topics, as well as those for which you will need to set aside $ 30-50. To set a topic you will need some knowledge, if you do not have it then someone’s help who understands it.
  7. Plugins – Once you are satisfied with the look of your blog, I recommend installing these plugins:
    • Contact Form 7 – a plugin through which readers or potential contributors will contact you
    • Akismet Anti-Spam – does not allow spam in comments
    • Facebook Like Box – the appearance of the plugin is customizable, so you can customize it to your liking
    • Instagram Feed – the appearance of the plugin is customizable, so you can customize it to your liking
    • MailChimp for WordPress – a plugin for newsletters
    • Yoast SEO – a great plugin that shows you if you have optimized your post well
  8. Writing a post – a post should contain at least 300 words (Yoast SEO below the post will get you all the information about this), and your keyword you specify for that post should appear at least a few times within the post, of course, if possible.
  9. Photos within the post – should not be larger than 2 MB, always reduce them through one of the programs like Photoshop (Save for web option), and you can put them in the dimension of 1000 * in proportion to how much it offers. Always call the photo itself, for example, pie-from-hanging (using – (minus) instead of spaces and without č, š, ć, ž .), and in ALT-TEXT always enter what is in the photo, eg cherry pie (using spaces and č, š, ć, ž ..). We do this because of google, whose algorithms do not see, but only read, so we “show” them what is in our photos.
  10. Photo quality – I’m not so much into taking pictures with my mobile phone when it comes to photos for a blog, but nowadays there are a lot of good mobile phones that can be more than a good start, but a camera is still a camera.
  11. Social networks – create accounts on those social networks that you normally like and use. There is no need to be on all social networks and provide your readers with the same content 4 times, because usually the one who follows you on Instagram, follows you on Facebook, so don’t get into the habit of just sharing content from Instagram to Facebook. If you do decide to be on all social networks, then at least try to upload different images or different descriptions when communicating new content on your blog so that you do not repeat yourself.
