Thor Love And Thunder: 5 Rumors We Hope Are True (& 5 We Hope Aren’t)

The kickoff of Phase 4 of the MCU might be delayed for the time being, but there are still plenty of exciting projects ahead that fans can get excited about. Many new heroes will be joining the MCU as well as some returning favorites, including the God of Thunder himself, who will be back in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Chris Hemsworth will once again reprise his role as Thor with Taika Waititi returning to direct. The movie is still a few years away, but there are already plenty of rumors swirling about what this next adventure might involve. Here are some rumors about Thor: Love and Thunder we hope are true, and some we hope are not.

10 Hope Is True: Beta Ray Bill Appears

The Thor movies have brought so many interesting characters to life on the big screen, such as Loki, Valkyrie, and Korg to name a few. However, there is one fan-favorite character from the comics who has yet to make his MCU debut: Beta Ray Bill.
Beta Ray Bill is a heroic member of the Korbinite species who starts off as an enemy of Thor before proving himself to be worthy to wield Mjolnir. Rumors suggest that the character will finally appear in this upcoming film, and may even be played by Christian Bale. Beta Ray Bill is a fascinating character who seems perfect for Waititi to bring to life.
9 Hope Is Not True: The Guardians Appear

When we last saw Thor in Avengers: Endgame, he was heading off on a cosmic adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy. This led many fans to assume that they would join Thor in his next adventure before their series ends with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Vin Diesel recently stoked these rumors, though he is not always the best source of information. While a brief cameo from the Guardians would be fun, having them join Thor in his own solo film would feel like too much, especially since they have their own film coming up in the future.

8 Hope Is True: Missing Characters Return

Thor: Ragnarok proved to be a bit of a restart for the Thor franchise. Old characters were killed off to make room for new characters, while some characters were not included at all. Thor: Love and Thunder has already confirmed Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will make her return, and rumors suggest that she won’t be the only one coming back.
Some fans have speculated that Dr. Erik Selvig and Lady Sif will appear in this film. It would be nice to have these characters back instead of leaving them as big open questions in the MCU. It would also be interesting to see Waititi’s interpretation of the characters.
7 Hope Is Not True: Loki Appears

One of the main aspects of the Thor movies has been his relationship with his half-brother Loki. Their arc together seemed to come to an appropriate close as they reconciled in Thor: Ragnarok before Loki was killed by Thanos.
Of course, we know that an alternate version of Loki is somewhere out there, which has some fans thinking we will appear in this film. As great as the character is, it would be nice to see Thor’s story evolve beyond this relationship. It would also rob the real Loki’s death of much of its power.

6 Hope Is True: Valkyrie Searches For A Queen

At the end of Endgame, Thor decides to step down as King of the Asgardians, and bestows the position on Valkyrie. Some have speculated that the new film will follow Thor helping Valkyrie to find a queen that will help her rule.

The MCU has been pushing further with diversity in their movies, and putting a gay relationship at the center of one of their biggest franchises would be a powerful mood. Beyond that, this could be a unique superhero story, playing out like a romantic comedy with cosmic action thrown in.
5 Hope Is Not True: Greek Gods

Though it’s hard to believe, the MCU continues to grow after all these years. Thor is a unique character in this universe as he represents the cosmic side of the universe as well as the fantastic side. This means his solo adventures can introduce a lot of interesting new characters.
Some rumors suggest that Love and Thunder will be the film to finally bring Greek gods like Hercules into the MCU. Hercules is certainly a great character, but there are so many other MCU projects that could bring him in. Forcing him into this packed film might not have the impact the character deserves.

4 Hope Is True: Jane Foster’s Cancer Plot

While Jane Foster was a character who had been mishandled in previous movies, fans are excited to see her return in this sequel. The character may finally get her due as she is said to become Lady Thor in this film. However, that is not the only interesting storyline Waititi may be taking from the comics.
Waititi has said he is considering using the comics storyline in which Jane Foster gets cancer. While that might seem like heavy subject matter for a superhero film, Waititi has shown himself to be a master at balancing heartbreak and humor. It could make for a very special MCU film.
3 Hope Is Not True: Thor And Jane Romance

One of the reasons Jane Foster wasn’t such a compelling character in the first two Thor films was the fact that she was forced into an uninspired romance with Thor. It was clear these two characters shared little in common, so it became hard to root for their romance.

With Jane returning, some have speculated that the romance storyline will be revisited. This would be merely be redoing the same old mistakes. It would be much more interesting to see these two characters sharing the screen, and realizing that they weren’t meant to be together.

2 Hope Is True: Defeated Thor

Thor: Ragnarok changed Thor’s character for the better, but Endgame took this new version of Thor and really ran wild with him. When we are reintroduced to Thor in Endgame, he is overweight, depressed, and suffering from PTSD.
While the change was controversial for some, it made for a fascinating take on the hero character. By the end of the film, Thor has improved but still has a lot of healing to do. Marvel is apparently still deciding if they will continue with this version of the character. Hopefully they do as there is still a lot more to explore with him.
1 Hope Is Not True: The End Of Thor

Given the lukewarm reception of the first two Thor movies, it’s a bit surprising that he is the first MCU hero to get four solo films. Clearly, a lot of that has to do with Taika Waititi’s new take, which made the character so much more entertaining.
Rumors suggest Love and Thunder will be the last Thor adventure with the God of Thunder retiring at the end. However, we feel like we’ve just gotten to know this new Thor, and hopefully, Waititi will do at least one more so he can complete his own Thor trilogy.
