How to Reduce Stress When Moving House

As exciting as it can be to move to a new home, with so much to do to prepare for it, it can also be a stressful experience. Between confirming a moving date, signing paperwork, and sorting through your belongings, it can quickly become overwhelming to manage all of these tasks. While you can’t avoid doing the preparation work to move, you can put things in place to make this easier for yourself, and below are a few tips that you might find useful.

Create a Schedule and Stick to It

Your moving day might be a couple of months away, but this time can and will go quickly. Don’t assume you have all the time in the world to get yourself organized. As soon as you find out when you’re moving, create a schedule and stick to it. For example, by the end of week one, decided what items you’re taking with you to your new home and what can be sold or donated. By the final week before the move, have everything packed in boxes apart from the essentials you’ll need each day, like your toothbrush, a few plates, phone charger, etc. 

Ask for Help

If you live alone, packing up all of your things will be a big job to do by yourself. Ask a few close friends or relatives if they wouldn’t mind coming over for a few hours in the evening or at the weekend to help you pack up the house and if they wouldn’t mind helping you do some unpacking when you get into your new home as well. Offer to cook them dinner as a thank you or get them a nice bottle of wine to show your gratitude and appreciation for their help. 

Put Stuff in Storage

Another thing you might want to consider is putting some of your belongings into storage in the weeks leading up to the move. This is a good idea if you want to redecorate your new home when you move in, as the less stuff you have around, the easier it will be to do this quickly. Eat Healthy Food

When you’re packing for a move, the days are long, and you might not be up to cooking once you’ve stopped for the night. You might have even boxed up a lot of your kitchenware, so don’t have much to work with anyway. When moving house, ordering takeout is a popular option when it comes to dinnertime, and while this can be useful, remember to make some healthier choices for your food. If you eat too much junk food, this can result in feelings of stress and lethargy that will make the process of moving that little bit more challenging.

Book in Advance

If you are going to hire a van or you need the help of a moving company, make sure you book these services in advance. If you leave this until the last minute, you might find that there is limited or no availability for when you need it, which will leave you in a difficult position.
