This letter was sent to the Gorham Town Council on March 17:
I and other individuals watched the City Council assembly on March 10. There was an item on this agenda from the Faculty Office inquiring the council to mail to referendum an further spending ask for at the Narragansett Faculty in the sum of $750,000.
I witnessed the board “not” vote on this product possibly way. I have since been advised that the University Office is selecting to use “unused funds” from the expansion revenue towards a kitchen area (that was not originally a component of an approval) and further they system to use $249,000 of taxpayer funds (retaining it underneath the referendum threshold.) For that reason, it is spending roughly $500,000 of taxpayer income with out taxpayers’ vote or authorization, which is obviously versus the town’s constitution.
This is incredibly disappointing as taxpayers rely on honest finances spending and this does not move the straight experience examination.
I presume that by the council using no action both way you assumed that this challenge was dead? And for that cause and for the deficiency of transparency on the part of the School Department, I would like to hereby request reconsideration of this product. You should location it on the future accessible agenda. I feel it is incredibly crucial that taxpayers have the option to comment on this.
The city constitution is incredibly certain in that expending (without the need of referendum vote) of over $250,000 is not permitted. The city officials have to regard the charter. In the earlier the voters have been asked to raise this quantity for paying and if I remember they voted against it, leaving the cap of $250,000, so carrying out this guiding their back again is improper, in my impression.
